Why Mission Beach?
Is this the finest beach
in Queensland?
Mission Beach is the exquisite gem on Queensland's tropical coast, that more and more people are discovering.
This is the place where the incredible green of the tropical rainforest meets the
surreal blue of the coral sea, interrupted only by a 14km long stretch of golden sand.
“Mission” as the locals affectionately call it, has it all, but with a major point of difference to anywhere else. Everything here is a bit more relaxed, things are in a more human scale, people are friendly and there is a real sense of community here. Little wonder then that people love living here
and visitors keep coming back.
Let's have a look what you can do when you've finished relaxing.
Dunk and Bedarra Islands with their world class resorts head a list of 17 tropical island within a 10km radius of Mission. Most of the others are uninhabited and when you visit you're likely to be the only person there.
One of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef is only an hour's boat ride away. Dive, fish or just sit in awe on a dazzling white sand cay, knowing that people travel from all over the world to see what you have on your doorstep.
Naturally with all that safe, calm water just off shore, boating and fishing is something of a passion for most locals. They are well serviced by boat ramps, boat yards, tackle shops and ships chandlers ready to sell you a truly amazing range of “must have” equipment.
The El Arish golf course (10 minutes drive away) is about to get some competition from the Thomson Perret designed course amongst the coastal ridges and valleys of South Mission (slightly less than 10 minutes away)
Whilst some might disagree, you need more than golf or fishing. Mission has many Restaurants, Cafes and Bars to relax and meet visitors, friends and neighbours. If you need a spot of retail therapy there a numerous shops and galleries. For the more basic needs there is a new major supermarket and specialty shops at Mission Central.
Every thriving community needs other services too, Doctors, Dentist, Pharmacy, Gym, Yoga, Library, Massage, Beauty salons, Hairdressers, everything is on your doorstep.
If that's not enough, Cairns, one of Australia's fastest growing cities currently about 150,000 people is 1 hour 30 minutes away. Cairns has daily direct flights to Brisbane Sydney and Melbourne as well as many Asia Pacific destinations.
In a world that is more and more crowded and noisy Mission is a haven. Here you find nature at it's most unspoilt and intense. The rainforest here has almost 80% of Australia's butterfly species. A single hectare of forest here has more plant diversity that all of Europe's forests combined. Both the reef and forest carry world heritage status for good reason.
So how have we managed to keep all this a secret? The answer is “not that well”.
The secret is leaking out! Several times recently in respected publication such as the Financial Review and Australian, Mission is identified as one of the country's key “hotspots”
In a recent survey by Australian
Traveller Magazine of Australia's top 100 towns, Mission Beach was second in
Queensland and eighteenth overall. Not bad for a place as yet largely
undiscovered.
